Spearfishing in Egypt.

While it is a fact, the Red Sea area is off limits to spearfishing and the use of Spearguns is illegal, the Mediterranean side of Egypt is another story.

Spearfishing in the Mediterranean Sea is legal. Scuba diving while spearfishing is something we do not encourage.

History.

Sometime ago, during the reign of King Farouk, he used to own a rest house (Montaza) by the Mediterranean Sea and he was in to spearfishing.

Being a king had its advantages, as his employees would gather groupers (a type of reef fish) by the tens and throw them by a reef then his majesty would dive and hunt the fish.

And long before this, the Pharos were know to spear fish along the Nile.
